I’ve always enjoyed making whatever jewelry my customers want. But I thought: "Wouldn’t it be great to come up with a design that is truly unique and identifiable as my own?" Where would I start, what would it look like, what materials would I use?

First things first…

With the high price of gold, I figured sterling silver would be the best choice for an inventory. Because it’s the same process and same molds, it’s no problem if a customer would like it in 14 karat. But what would the item be?

I’ve always enjoyed making pendant jackets. This style of jewelry features an outer part called the jacket and a changeable center called the insert. Men love getting these for their sweethearts because they can buy the jacket once and give inserts with different gemstones for occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries, Valentine’s Day, etc.

I have many customers that like heart-shaped pendants; I’ve made them for many years. Wouldn’t it be great to create one with a unique abstract design and be a jacket as well? And what would I call it?

Welcome to the Heart of Bothell

Cast in sterling silver, these pendants make a great, affordable gift. The three sizes are perfect for mom, daughter, and granddaughter, as well. These have been especially popular set with birthstones. I’ve designed a special insert with multiple stones that turns this into a wonderful mother’s pendant.

I am so excited about this project. I was able to register the trademark ”Heart of Bothell” with the State of Washington. I was also able to register the domain name “HeartOfBothell.com" for a future website. I will not be selling these online, but rather will have an information page showing pictures and directing people to the shop.

I must confess, this is the craziest idea I’ve ever come up with. To say I enjoyed it would be an understatement. How could I have more fun? Well...I thought it would be great to have a club for everyone who purchases one of my new pendants. They become an automatic member complete with a membership card. All they have to do is show their card and they get a great discount on new inserts. And what would I call my new club? Let me present:
